Ok, so, here’s the deal.

I’m tired of Jupiter.

Seriously, I can’t stand the fact every single freaking Gas Giant in the entire galaxy looks like Jupiter. You might get a break once in a while with a few looking like Saturn, but in general, you can always expect a Gas Giant to look like a glorified wedding cake rather than, well, a normal planet. The eyes-of-the-storm, the different layers, you name it.

I mean, statistically speaking, only 1/4 of the Solar System’s non-terrestrial planets look like Jupiter (because that 1/4 IS Jupiter), so why do 80% of the Gas Giants in game do so? Aren’t failed stars supposed to be rarer than Ice Giants, and isn’t the fact Jupiter looks like a glorified wedding cake with its layers because of the fact it’s stormy as hell but too massive for its own good?

And look, and this is me speaking, but I think Uranus and Neptune simply look much nicer. Not only they look eerie as hell – very provocative, which is something you want in a game about the vastness of space – but they’re mean, lean and clean. Neptune looks so nice they named it over the ocean, and Uranus looks so nice they almost named it after King George III.

So why can’t we have more Uranuses and Neptunes around? Does Paradox hate Uranus? Are they scared?

I don’t know, but I think we ought to.

So, here this is. All this mod does is replace the textures for the randomly-spawned Gas Giants with edited textures I made based off Uranus and Neptune.

2K Textures, Achievement-friendly because it’s just replacing graphics, save-game compatible, other-mod friendly because I have more than two neurons, the whole charade.

Colors for the new Gas Giants are Fuchsia, Cream, Purple, Turquoise and Salmon.

-BUT WAIT THERE’S MORE!-

If you’re a smart little rascal like me, you might be playing with Real Space. And in that situation, normally you wouldn’t be able to use this mod because Real Space injets 50 other new textures for Gas Giants and completely ignores vanilla textures, which I replaced.

But fear not my dear friend, for I had this foresight already.

Besides “fixing” vanilla, this same mod works for Real Space. All it does is replace the Real Space 2K Textures with 50 more texture edits I did, using some Real Space textures as framework.

And because the game will only load the Real Space files when the RS Asset Table requests, if you come to disable Real Space afterwards having this mod installed won’t slow your game down even if there are more texture files than before.

Colors for the new Real Space Gas Giants include Fuchsia, Cream, Purple, Turquoise, Salmon, Lime, Dark Orange, Lava, Marine-Blue, Pink, Magenta and Violet.

Might I add you can expect many more blue Gas Giants from this one, as it should because they look the nicest. Green and Purple Giants are a treat, but common nonetheless.

Again, 2K Textures, Achievement-friendly because it’s just replacing graphics, save-game compatible, other-mod friendly because I have more than two neurons, the whole charade.

Files changed are gfx/models/planets, 57 DDSs in total, properly compressed and mipmapped.

Have some good, aesthetic, fun!
