AlphaMod: Districts & Dissidents (2.8) Mod

AlphaMod: Districts & Dissidents (2.8) Mod

New Districts and Divided Populations in AlphaMod

This supplement increases the district slots to twelve and adds several new district types, some you choose to build, some build themselves. Including: State Superstructure, Private Sectors, Remote Districts, Shanties, Scum-Hives, Oceanbed Districts and Subterrania Districts.

The supplement also expands on AlphaMod’s ‘pop status system’. Pops can become separatists, isolating themselves from the state, or tribal, developing their own independent society. Left unchecked, or abused too much, these pops may prove to be even more trouble when they become dissidents, actively opposed to the state.

Remote Districts

  • These are outposts and settlements in the wilder regions of a planet. They provide Settler jobs, their production dependent on the planet-type.
  • You don’t choose to build remote districts and they will emerge on a young colony as the population grows.
  • You have some control over their rate of appearance by a policy and planetary decisions. You can demolish remote districts, but that risks upsetting and potentially radicalising any settler living there.
  • Settlers tend to be independent-minded pops who may develop tribal tendencies anyway, which can potentially evolve into separatist and even dissident behaviours.

Shanties and Scum-Hives

  • If a shortage of affordable housing becomes a problem on a colony, remote districts may swap to Shanties.
  • If crime gets out of control on a colony, remote districts may switch to Scum-Hives.

Tribalism, Separatism and Dissidence

  • When pops become tribal or separatists, a planetary decision becomes available, letting you choose what to do about them. Available options depend on empire ethos.
  • If you choose to lock up these pops, they will often become dissidents. Incarceration Zone planetary features will provide a job just for them, but you may have to use a planetary decision to arrest them first.
  • If you have incarcerated dissidents, a planetary decision to rehabilitate them will become available.

Subterrania and Oceanbed Districts

  • Decisions to chart subterrania or ocean beds on certain types of planets, unlocked by two of the blocker clearing techs.
  • Once the charting is complete, a new deposit is placed on the planet that increases maximum districts by three and allows up to three Subterrania or Oceanbed Districts to be built.
  • Once the relevant strategic resource tech is researched, Subterrania Districts provide mining for Volatile Motes, and Oceanbed Districts provide mining of Exotic Gases.

Private Sectors
No housing here. You can choose to build these districts, assuming your policies support private business and exploitation of land by them. However, once you build one, the private sectors on a planet may expand as the local economy grows.

State Superstructures
No housing here either. You don’t choose to build these and they will appear as a planet’s population grows, increasing demands on local government to provide administration and services.
